Workshop
Critical Institutions in Society
January 14–15, 2017
On the occasion of the call for a new team as of August 2017, the Shedhalle Board of Directors is organizing a public, two-day workshop on critical art institutions’ organizational forms, production relations, and working conditions.
For two days, guests and participants will discuss in various formats, the current challenges for institutions, such as the Shedhalle, that focus on socio-political and critical-emancipatory practices. What theoretical and socio-cultural emphases should be pursued? How does the claim to connect with critical knowledge production and political activism relate to the institutional conditions of art mediation? How can structures be promoted that contradict precarization and the neo-liberal creativity imperative? How can the Shedhalle deal with its balancing act between local social involvement and international positioning? Last but not least, against this backdrop, discussion will also turn to strategies of mutual support among critical art institutions. Speakers and exact times will be announced shortly.
