Certain key issues within the critical urban research are currently dealing with questions about "urban citizenship". This attaches social rights to the centre of one's life, and not one's citizenship. The dialogical art project "The whole world in Zurich" wants to suggest urban citizenship for the city of Zurich and is creating precise implementation models. How can a citizenship look like in Zurich? What kinds of direct interventions into the migration politics of Switzerland is needed? What role does art play in here? The 3rd Hafenforum with international audience "We're going urban – urban art and urban citizenship" is discussing those plans in regard of art theory, critical urban sociology and urbanism in addition to european models of "best practice" according to urban citizenship.
A quarter of all residents of Switzerland are excluded from political and legal participation because they do not have a Swiss passport. Many of them also have difficult access to social services, education, jobs, public institutions and other spaces. Migration is addressed as a problem and migrants seem to be an alleged source of conflict communication, while they remain excluded from decision-making positions. This disparity could be offset by access to social rights and resources for all.
The 3rd Harbour forum "Doing city – urban art and urban citizenship" is discussing those topics in public in regard of political theory, critical urban sociology, art theory and mediation.
Can an art project be a concrete political intervention at the same time? What concept of “The Political” do we need in debating equal rights for all city citizens? How can we find new forms of acting together in solidarity? And: How do similar debates and battles look like somewhere else?

About the speakers:
Mary Jane Jacob is a curator and writer who pioneered public, site-specific, and socially engaged art in the US as a shared practice and public discourse. Her landmark projects include “Places with a Past” in Charleston, South Carolina, “Culture in Action” in Chicago, and “Conversations at the Castle” in Atlanta. She holds the position of Professor and Executive Director of Exhibitions and Exhibition Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Oliver Marchart is a political philosopher and sociologist. He has been a Professor of Sociology at the Kunstakademie (Academy of Art) Düsseldorf since 2012. Marchart coined the concept of post-foundationalism and in his work discusses the various attempts to distinguish between politics, the political, and society in sociology, philosophy, and political theory.
Nora Sternfeld is a Professor for Curating and Mediating Art at the Aalto University in Helsinki. She is a founding member of the Viennese trafo.K office, which works on research and mediation projects at the intersection of science production and education. In addition, she is part of the managerial team of ecm – educating/curating/managing – Master’s program for Exhibition Theory and Practice at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, and part of the core team of schnittpunkt. ausstellungstheorie und praxis (interface: exhibition theory & practice).
Henrik Lebuhn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Sociology at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and journalist for PROKLA – Zeitschrift für kritische Sozialwissenschaft. He works on issues related to urban citizenship, urban migration and borders, social movements, and participatory politics.
